Last week I finished an update to my strategic plan. I was excited, the updated and revised plan is more focused, clearer, and on target than any previous strategic plan I had ever had previously. As with most things, the more you do it, the better it gets.
The key to a great strategic plan, that most people forget, is not the goal setting part. I work with many clients on goal clarification. Without the clarification, nothing else can happen, so don’t misunderstand what I’m saying here.
To make a strategic plan truly “great” or effective, the focus needs to shift to goal getting once the plan is in place.
I’m happy to report that I’ve already accomplished one of the goals of my strategic plan. I’ve also scheduled time to lay out the specifics of all the other goals of my strategic plan so that I can accomplish the goals.
