Washing the Phone

Last week before we took off for the beach for a few days of relaxation, we did laundry at our house. I neglected to check my pockets and as a result, had left my cell phone in one of the pockets.

The phone went through the washer and the dryer, before we discovered that it was there. Needless to say, the phone didn’t work after that.

Since this happened on a Saturday, I knew that I wouldn’t be able to take care of the phone before we left for the beach the next day. So instead, I decided to go without my phone.

It was a great feeling to be disconnected from the rest of the world for a few days. It really did feel like a vacation.

I tell you this story for a couple of reasons – first when you go through an unpleasant experience, what’s the silver lining? What are you learning from the experience? What do you have control over?

Second – make an assessment – ie. ask yourself questions – How bad do I need a phone? Can things wait until a later time without chaos happening?
