Taking Time Off…If You Dare
Ok, so you’re an entrepreneur or a decision maker within a business. Maybe even a manager or a sales person. The business relies on you to make decisions and move the company forward towards the achievement of its goals.
Taking time off is probably the last thing on your mind. You’re probably thinking something to this effect “Yeah right, I’ll take time off when we slow down a bit.” Or “Take time off…Are you kidding, I’m already way behind.”
If you have your own business, take a moment and answer this question - why did you start your business? Was it because you got tired of being told what to do? You wanted more freedom? I’m sure for many of you, those reasons were a part of the equation.
If you work for someone else, you can ask yourself a similar question - why did I go to work for the company I work for? I’ll bet that one of the reasons has to do with having more freedom in some form.
This past Thursday I took most of the day off to be with my five your old daughter. As part of her pre-school, they do a end of school year field trip. We had a great time together on the trip. As a side benefit, I also came back refreshed.
Everyone needs a break every now and them. Your body and your mind need a break - so don’t wait for the perfect time to take even just one mental break day. You’ll never take that day off unless you make time and schedule it ahead of time.
I support taking time off often; getting out of town, especially. Every time I venture away from home, I come up with a great new idea or a fantastic solution to an existing challenge.
